Wild clay slips
I walking everyday as part of my PTSD recovery routine. I will walk the garden, woodlands, forests, mountains and moors to find items to identify, pick-up and collect. Collecting is part of the brain processing centre involving movement, balance and focus. The items can vary from branches for handles, wild clay for clay bodies or slips and vegitation for twine. Each find within the walk will need to be managed. Wild clay will need to be processed. Branches selected, cut, dried and treated. Trine will be stripped, dried and spin into thread.
The emphasis of the walking regardless of distance, speed and location is to move. Movement assists the Proprioception (body awareness and position in the space) Vestibular (awareness of our movement, balance, and coordination) Interoception (our internal sensory system that tells us what is happening inside our body (eg hunger, needing the toilet, fatigue, emotions, etc).
Once the physiological and psychological processes function together in harmony without the triggers and reflexes of trauma the self is able to create physical and mental wellness for creative activities.
